Instructor: | Debra MacCrea |
Using only Natural Dyes (Indigo, plus one red and one yellow), participants will pattern a minimum of 4 fabric pieces using intricate or simple folding, clamping, stitching, or tying methods to restrict the uniform penetration of the dye fluids, resulting in surprising and gorgeously intricate fabrics.
Dyes will be prepared ahead of time (but brewing will be fully explained) to facilitate more time in creating pattern on fabric. Fabrics will also be prepped (scoured and mordanted, when needed) in advance. Students will leave with 4 or more pieces of dyed and patterned fabrics and a comprehensive handout of processes.
SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED: Beginner with some experience
PREREQUISITE: Experience in handling fabrics is helpful, but not necessary. More intricate methods will be possible with some handling experience (hand sewing, folding, ironing, etc).
