WEIGHTED IN THE PAST - WARP WEIGHTED LOOM WEAVING - SOLD OUT

Rooted in the ancient traditions of the Vikings, Warp Weighted loom weaving is one of the simplest form of weaving and can be done using a basic frame loom.

In this workshop we will explore the basics of loom structure and construction, set up and begin weaving, exploring Rya, a traditional weave structure from Scandanavia. Rya weaving or knots create a piled effect and historically garments woven using this technique served as bedding and outerwear. The class project is either a small pillow or pouch. Students will have the use of a tabletop loom and all yarns and materials will be provided.

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED:  Advanced Beginner

PREREQUISITE:  Know the basics of weaving and simple loom mechanics

Materials Info

MATERIAL FEE:  A material fee of $45 will be collected by the instructor via cash, check day of workshop OR epayment via PayPal or Venmo, but a collection fee will be added if using electronic payment.  It includes:  the use of a table top loom while in class, all handouts and materials including a yarn kit

STUDENTS MUST BRING:  scissors, notebook or paper, measuring tape or 12" ruler, small stick shuttle, tapestry or large eye needle. tapestry beater or dinner fork (some will be provided for sharing by the instructor) Optional: project or Ott light and extension cord for the light; a chair cushion or pillow for comfort while sitting and students might prefer to stand part of the class time while weaving.

We also suggest bringing a battery operated light should you need additional lighting.
