Longwool fibers tend to have stereotypes that can turn away handspinners from a truly fantastic experience. Longwools have many uses in the knitting, crocheting, and weaving world. Luster is a fabulous characteristic of these breeds.
In this class, you will learn how to choose a longwool breed for your intended end-use, spinning methods to maximize and even minimize luster and useful tips for controlling worsted and woolen prepped longwool fibers while spinning.
We will discuss how to avoid ‘pitfalls’ when preparing these fibers for spinning and ways to make adjustments in your spinning techniques and wheel to take your longwool appreciation to new heights.
E-spinners are welcome!
Prerequisite: Students should have prior spinning experience including spinning a consistent yarn and ability to create a 2-ply yarn.
