Leather is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of farm fibers; it may not even be the third thing. But like wool, leather is a sustainable material that’s use has spanned centuries and continents because of its usability and its longevity. However unlike Wool, most modern day artists haven’t had access to work with sustainable vegetable tanned leather because most of today’s leather is made with chromium- a heavy metal. It’s time to change that, in this workshop attendees will have the chance to not only to learn all about Vegetable tanned leather made right here in the Hudson Valley of NY, but they will have the opportunity to explore and work on this special material. Students can use the tools we supply or they can bring their own tools they want to test out. With access to over $200 worth of material each student will have the chance to explore ideas and create their own one of a kind project to take home and cherish for many decades to come.
