Mathematical formulas and calculations as they relate to dyeing fiber. Simplify dyeing practice by using metric measurements. It is easy and does not require complicated translation from pounds and ounces. Understand how simple equipment, specifically an inexpensive metric scale and metric measuring containers can not only simplify practices but make it easier going between dry and liquid measurements. These practices can be applied to both synthetic dyes and natural dyes in making stock solutions. We’ll start with standardized dyes (commercial) to understand the process and then switch to natural dyes making a few tweaks to the process. By doing this you will have better control in mixing color formulas and working through color gradations. Students will receive a set of samples illustrating the various principles and vocabulary involved in dyeing. In the end your usage of dye will be more efficient and your ability to reproduce or match color will be more accurate.
