Learn the ins-and-outs of willow basketry while we weave a cute and functional oak and willow tote! In this full day class we will learn how to weave a willow basket onto a solid oak base, and will gain an understanding for how to attach leather handles onto a basket. We will explore basic willow weaving techniques such as the wale, the English Rand, and the 3-pair border. No basketry experience is required to weave this beginner-friendly basket, although working with willow does require some hand and thumb strength.

Amy is an artist and basketry instructor living in the forest of the Catskill Mountains. Her project, Cambium Lost Arts, is one dedicated to the revival of dying or forgotten practices of traditional craft. Currently, her focus is centered on the practice of hand-split white oak and skeined willow basketry, which she travels the country to teach in order to keep these dying arts alive.
