Workshop Info

Indigo has been mystifying and seducing us for centuries with it's deep sultry blues. While a humble unassuming plant, it requires some precise chemistry to unlock the blues. This 1/2 day workshop will go over building and reading an indigo vat, and troubleshooting for when things are not going right.

We will spend the rest of the time dyeing all the things blue! This is a BYOF class (bring your own fibers) so you can find some treasures and breathe some new life into them or get some all new materials to play with. Small items of clothing (no jeans), fabric in up to a yard in size, yarn, unspun fibers, locks etc. All items to dye must be very clean, please reach out for guidance if you need some.

Prerequisite:  None

Skill Level Required:  All levels welcome

Homework:  This is a Bring Your Own Fiber class, please bring your small clothing items (no jeans), fabric up to 1 yard in size, yarns, fibers, etc. All items to dye must be very clean, please scour even if they seem clean, using hot water and detergent appropriate for fiber type.

This workshop is held in a heated tent.  Your hands will be in and out of water throughout the session.

A material fee of $25 will be collected by the instructor via cash or Venmo.  This includes unlimited indigo to dye your items, all equipment required for proper dyeing, detailed handout, and four cloth napkins.

Students must bring:  Please review homework and bring long dishwashing type gloves, a couple shallow basins such as dishpans or roasting pans, and zip lock bags to bring your dyed items home.

NOTE:  There is no onsite ATM on Thursday and Friday.
