Workshop Info

Beaded knitting is just one form of knitting with beads. It was very popular in the 1920s and used to make elaborate bead purses. It is not hard to do – if you can knit and purl you can make a beaded purse! Join us as we learn the tricks to this kind of knitting while making a tiny amulet purse that can be worn as a necklace.

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED:  Advanced Beginner

PREREQUISITE:  Knit, purl, cast on, bind off, increases and decreases.

MATERIAL FEE:  A material fee of $30 will be collected by the instructor.  Students will be invoiced 2 weeks before the festival, and payment will then be able to be made via bank draft, credit card, or PayPal, with payment due by one week before (last minute registrations are fine, with cash - exact change, please - accepted on the day of the workshop).

 It includes:   a purse kit (includes yarn, needles, beads). (Instructor has a variety of colors in both thread and beads, but limited amounts in each of the color choices available.) Supplies are available separately as well for various fees (if you just need the needles, or the beads, for example.) Please notify instructor ahead of time if you plan to purchase a kit or any of the supplies, so she can be sure to bring enough supplies. hs@heatherstorta.com

STUDENTS MUST BRING:  DMC perle cotton #8 (or similar). Size 4/0 (0000), 6-8” knitting needles or dpns. Size 11 seed beads, one hank (in hank form is important!) (Reading glasses if you need them! We will be working with TINY stitches!) Fine tapestry needle, scissors. (Kits are available from instructor for a fee.)

We also suggest bringing a battery operated light should you need additional lighting.
