Beginning Fair Isle Knitting - SOLD OUT

Stranded knitting uses two or more colors per row to create gorgeous colorwork items. Fair Isle is a specific category of stranded knitting.

We’ll cover the basics of stranded knitting and Fair Isle and get the hang of working it while knitting a hat with a simple motif. We will also cover yarn management, methods of tensioning, yarn dominance issues, choosing colors for patterns, reading colorwork charts, decreasing in pattern, and weaving in ends.

Skill Level Required: Intermediate - Knitting in the round, basic decreases.

Homework: Gauge is 22 sts over 4" in stockinette with worsted weight yarn and size US 6 needles. Adjust needle size as needed to obtain gauge.  Use one size smaller needles than gauge needles for ribbing. 16" or 20" circular needles are recommended.

Using your chosen background color and smaller needles, cast on 100 sts for an 18" hat or 120 sts for a 21" hat.   Join to work in the round, placing a marker at the beginning of the round.  Work k2, p2 ribbing for 1.5".

Switch to larger needles and knit 4 rounds plain (knit every round.)  Leave hat on the needles.
