Nature provides a plentiful bounty of materials that can be used to produce color. In this workshop students will learn to identify some of the common plants available for use in the dye pot. Harvesting, storage and preparation will be covered as well as the basics of dyeing. This workshop is one in which students contribute actively to the dye pots ( see what students should bring for details). All students will take home sample skeins produced from the materials supplied by their classmates.
This workshop is held in a heated tent.
Skill Level Required: All levels welcome.
Homework: None.
Questions regarding workshops should be directed to: elmshootfarm@gmail.com
Note: Images are a respresentation of the workshop project.
MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS WORKSHOP (for Dye Particles, too!)
There is a $30 material fee included in the price of registration. The fee includes all handouts, sample skeins and additional materials necessary for the dye process.
STUDENTS SHOULD BRING: Students will be asked to contribute foraged materials to the workshop. Each student will be responsible for providing a gallon sized zip lock bag of “fresh” plant material. Information will be provided to each student PRIOR to the workshop in order that dye materials can be stored and brought on the day of class. They should wear clothing they do not mind getting soiled in the dye process.
