This workshop combines slipped stitches with cables in a fun mashup of color and texture. Slipped-stitch cabling is a colorwork technique that is very similar to mosaic knitting; only one color of yarn is used at a time in each round, making it an easy way to produce a sophisticated-looking product.
During the workshop, knitters will practice slipped stitch cables using the Kinetic Energy Hat pattern, a bottom up hat that also features rows of ribbing and garter stitch. They'll need 2 or 3 colors of yarn with a good contrast and either double-pointed needles or a circular needle for working a small circumference in the round.
SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED: Advanced Beginner
PREREQUISITE: Read a pattern, knits and purls, work stitches in the round, slip stitches, cables, decreases
HOMEWORK: With MC and smaller needle size, cast on 120 (140, 160) sts for a size 18 (21, 24)" hat circumference and join to work in the round. Place a marker to mark the beginning of the round and slip this marker each round.
