HISTORICAL STITCHES: AN INTRODUCTION TO WOOL EMBROIDERY - SOLD OUT

Spend a relaxing afternoon learning the basics of wool embroidery (or crewel wool embroidery) with Stuart Moores Textiles' plant dyed wool embroidery floss and fabric. We will cover all of the stitching techniques necessary to create a small embroidered motif inspired by 18th century wool embroidery. Each student with receive all of the materials needed to create a motif in class as well as a pattern and all of the materials needed to make a large embroidered pin keep (biscornu) at home.

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED:  Absolute Beginner

PREREQUISITE:   the ability to read a pattern and follow written and spoken instructions. Any previous embroidery experience is a plus though not required. Not suitable for under 16 year olds.

Materials Info

MATERIAL FEE:  A material fee of $75 will be collected by the instructor via cash or check before the class starts.  It includes:  (6) 20 yard skeins of SMT wool plant dyed embroidery floss (3) 10 yard skeins of SMT wool plant dyed embroidery floss (4) Linen stitching cloth cuts approx. 14" x 14" each (1) Needle set of two wool embroidery floss needles (1) Solid brass floss card holder with a screw closure (1) Frixion pen (1) Card of white sewing thread (1) Paper copy of the biscornu pattern top and bottom (1) Paper copy of sample biscornu pattern (1) 10" embroidery hoop (1) cotton stuffing bag

STUDENTS MUST BRING:  A pair of thread snips and a pair of tweezers. A light and reading glasses if students generally use them for crafting and a seat cushion if they think they will need one to sit for 8 hours.

We also suggest bringing a battery operated light should you need additional lighting.

 

NOTEThere is no onsite ATM on Thursday and Friday.
