Workshop Info

This workshop is held in a heated tent.  Your hands may be in and out of water throughout the workshop.

Some fiber arts communities were able to survive and continue producing bespoke fibers throughout the Industrial Revolution, however small batch environmentally sound and farm friendly leathers and handcrafted parchment began slowly slipping away. These materials span centuries and continents, and yet most of today’s artists have never worked with them.

Now is your chance to explore these traditional materials! In this workshop, attendees will get to learn about parchment and leather created right here in the Hudson Valley, ask questions and get the chance to see, feel and work with the materials in a variety of applications. Each participant will receive three sample packs of the same or a variety of materials and begin to test a project out under the guidance of experts (aka fellow explorers). Come prepared to draw, paint, stitch, weave and much more. We will have some supplies, but if you have a special pen or needle or tool or brush, you’d like to try, bring it along. Parchment and Leather are truly an amazing part of a sustainable fibershed solution. This hands on experience and Q&A will help to alleviate self doubt and fear so that artists are excited and confident about trying an *almost* new medium.

A material fee of $40 to be paid to the instructor via cash, check, or payment app.

Material fee includes:  all materials and supplies provided in class. Students will leave with material and information that is equal to our $150 Educational fee. This means they receive two 5x7 or 8x10 of the material of their choice, plus samples to explore/ test in the workshop and printed out information to help guide makers even after they go home. And as a special gift a 10% discount on a future purchase. 

Student should bring:  An apron to protect clothing.
