About 11 years ago, I was told my toddler would love seeing the animals at a fiber fair. While there, I saw what looked like a painting of a stunning sunset, but with richly colored wool pulled across the sky. The vendor called it "felting," and said it involved wool and needles with barbs and my eyes glazed over and we wandered off to pet the bunnies.

A year later, still thinking about it, I finally had a teacher show me how to needle-felt a pumpkin. I came home and felted a dog, an otter, a cat, another dog, a horse, a goat... I watched a video about wet-felting and made a purse that fell apart, a hat that looked like a dish rag, and scarf reminiscent of dryer lint. They were all VERY bad.  Live teachers teach better.

I've since learned needle and wet-felting from some of the finest teachers in real life. I also had the good fortune to live in Australia and learn nuno, shibori, wet sculpting and surface embellishment from fiber artists there. I taught both wet and needle-felting at the Alice Springs Beanie Festival 2009-2012 and returned in 2017 to teach again.

I've won ribbons for needle and wet-felting at SAFF and Maryland Sheep and Wool as well as awards in local art shows.  I focus on realism, playfulness and high-quality craftsmanship.
